Ken Dychtwald Ph.D. 

"The New Alchemy of Travel: In Search of Peak Experiences"

Fueled by the dual Boomer liberations of empty nesting and retirement and turbo-charged by Millennial FOMO, hundreds of millions of men and women worldwide are hoping to enjoy more “time affluence” than at any other point in history. These forces are causing an unquenchable appetite for stimulating and nourishing "peak experiences" of every form and flavor.

Ken is a psychologist, gerontologist, documentary filmmaker and best-selling author of 16 books on aging-related issues, including Age Wave: The Challenges and Opportunities of an Aging Society and The Power Years: A User’s Guide to the Rest of Your Life. He is currently writing two new books - The Longevity Economy: Tomorrow’s Biggest Market is Hiding in Plain Sight and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Since 1986, Ken has been the founding President and CEO of Age Wave, a firm created to guide companies and government groups in product/service development for boomers and mature adults. His client list includes over half the Fortune 500. He has served as a fellow of the World Economic Forum, and was a featured speaker at two White House Conferences on Aging. American Demographics honored him as the single most influential marketer to baby boomers over the past quarter century and he has twice received the distinguished American Society on Aging Award for outstanding national leadership. Ken was recently honored by Investment Advisor as one of the 35 most influential thought leaders in the financial services industry over the past 35 years. His article in the Harvard Business Review, “It’s Time to Retire Retirement,” was awarded the prestigious McKinsey Award, and recently, he and his wife Maddy were the recipients of the Esalen Prize for outstanding contributions to advancing the worldwide field of human potential.

During his career, Ken has addressed more than two million people worldwide in his speeches to corporate, association, social service, and government groups. His strikingly accurate predictions and innovative ideas are regularly featured in leading print and electronic media worldwide.

"The New Language of Leisure: A Boomer/Millennial Smackdown"

Ken and Zak Dychtwald – presenting together for the first time - will lead the group in a fun, mind-stretching and actionable session to envision the new purpose, aspirations, flavors and language of leisure.

Zak Dychtwald is a world-traveler, explorer, writer and public speaker. A lifelong fan of science fiction, great food, interesting people and religious meaning, he has traveled extensively throughout five continents.

Zak’s first book Over the Wall: How Young China Sees Themselves and the World will be published by St. Martins Press in the winter of 2017. The book explores how China’s young generation born after ’90 will define who China will be in the modern world. Over the Wall examines this young generation’s hopes for their futures and what they look for in their products, services and experiences. Zak’s overarching goal is to change the way the world understands China, to expand the focus away from headline politics and economics and towards identity and cross-cultural understanding.

"Modern Metrics for the Hotel Industry"

As the travel distribution marketplace continues to evolve with various new entrants competing for customer loyalty, Kalibri Labs will facilitate a provocative and interactive discussion on new hotel metrics in the changing digital marketplace. These sessions will provide a deep dive into hotel net revenue and how to better evaluate revenue performance net of acquisition costs. Discussions will include What strategies should a hotel, travel agency owner or travel provider can use to adapt to the changing environment and needs of a global audience.

Matt has spent six years in the hospitality distribution and revenue strategy space. With that experience, Matt is inspired by the rapid evolution in this area of the hotel industry and by the opportunity to drive change and support hotels in improving their performance.

Prior to joining Kalibri Labs, Matt spent several years as a part of Marriott's Channel Strategy and Distribution team working on a variety of initiatives in the online hotel distribution space. These included both industry-wide efforts and product lines within Marriott. Matt had responsibility for reporting, marketing and merchandising for Marriott’s vacation packaging vertical, collaborating across internal teams on industry-wide projects and working with the distribution team to vet potential new partners.

Marc is a dynamic speaker and social entrepreneur who co-founded Me to We, offering culturally immersive volunteer travel experiences in Africa, Asia and Latin America that have been host to youth groups, Fortune 100 CEOs, celebrities, Nobel Laureates and members of the British Royal Family.

Marc is the co-founder of ME to WE, a pioneering social enterprise, the profits from which help sustain the work of the charitable organization. ME to WE offers culturally immersive volunteer travel experiences with signature lodges in the Masaai Mara and on the coast of Kenya, in the Aravali Mountains of India, and the shores of the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin, have been host to youth, corporations, Fortune 100 CEOs and their families. His work has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes and the BBC.

Marc graduated from Harvard University with a degree in International Relations. He won a Rhodes Scholarship and completed a law degree from Oxford University. He has also received 10 honorary doctorates and degrees for his work in the fields of education and human rights. Marc is a New York Times bestselling author, who has published 8 books, as well as a nationally syndicated columnist. He is the recipient of many honors, including the Order of Canada, and was selected by the World Economic Forum as one of the world’s Young Global Leaders. Marc was also recently inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame for his humanitarian efforts and his work to empower youth to change the world. In 2015, along with his brother Craig, he was named Canada’s Most Admired CEO in the public sector.

Mr. Comeau joined the Phocuswright team in November, 2007. Pete is responsible for managing the research sales and service team and growing Phocuswright's syndicated, custom, and multi-client research sales globally. He also plays a key role in product development strategy for Phocuswright research and events. Mr. Comeau has worked in the travel and hospitality industry for over 15 years, most recently as a relationship manager at Orbitz Worldwide in Chicago, where he assisted in growing and managing accounts for the white label division. Prior to Orbitz, Pete was the sales manager at Moguls Mountain Travel, a ski tour wholesaler in Boulder, CO. He helped design, implement and maintain four reservation systems during his tenure and managed and mentored a team of successful sales agents. Pete holds an M.B.A. from Daniels College of Business and graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College with a degree in government and economics.

Ms. Gonzalez joined the Phocuswright team in March of 2015. As product marketer, she is responsible for improving existing product lines and creating new products for the brand. Before dedicating her time to Phocuswright, Monze worked in various marketing capacities at Northstar Travel Group for four years. She received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in communications and ethnic studies from California State University, Fullerton.

Lorraine Sileo launched the research division of Phocuswright Inc. in 1998. Phocuswright's global marketplace intelligence is the industry standard for segmentation, sizing, forecasting, trends, analysis and consumer travel planning behavior. She is quoted frequently in consumer and trade media and has authored numerous publications (including Phocuswright's U.S. Online Travel Overview reports). Lorraine has testified at hearings held by the National Commission to Ensure Consumer Information and Choice in the Airline Industry, charged by Congress to examine the impact of online distribution on the travel industry. She was previously an adjunct professor at New York University's Graduate Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management. She has analyzed the business and consumer electronics marketplace for various publications and media companies for over 20 years.
